How to choose a party dress
Length for the venue. A short or knee-length dress is easiest for dancing and a busy bar. A midi works for a party that starts with dinner.
Neckline and straps. An off-the-shoulder or strapless dress needs a strapless bra and a bodice that stays up on its own; try it on with your arms raised. A one-shoulder dress gives the same line with more support.
Winter parties. Velvet and heavier satin are warmer and hold their shape through a long night. Pair them with a coat long enough to cover the hem.
