What to wear as a wedding guest
Not white. White, ivory and cream belong to the bride, so this rail leaves those colours out. A pale dress should still read clearly as a colour in photographs.
The venue. A church ceremony often asks for covered shoulders: bring a wrap or bolero. A garden or marquee wedding means grass, so avoid thin heels and very long hems that trail on wet ground.
Length. Midi is right for almost any wedding. A maxi dress suits an evening reception or a summer wedding abroad. Keep very short dresses for the evening party, if at all.
A long day. A wedding runs from the ceremony to the last dance, so choose a dress you can sit, eat and dance in, and plan a layer for the evening.
